Thank you SO much to everyone who entered my comp with Total Jobs and #JobAcademy. For those not familiar with the comp (not sure how you’d achieve that as I did bang on about it a bit – sorry!), readers were asked to style their perfect interview outfit for a chance to win £150 to spend at Selfridges. You can see what I chose here.
The entries were so so good and they’re all worth a read, whether you have an interview coming up or not! The styling suggestions were fab and so was all the general advice on how to prepare for an interview. Seems we’ve all had our fair share of crap interviews!
I LOVED the Zara heels in Gem’s ‘spend’ outfit on a-fashionable-preoccupation.com.
I also really liked the trousers in Katy’s post on swonderfulsmarvellous.wordpress.com. (Despite her house mate and aunty not agreeing!).
Martyne’s post on goingtheextrastyle.com really cracked me up (Eminem is always helpful for gearing up for interviews) and I seriously need that Tom Ford lippy.
The colours in Erika’s outfit on eclecticenchantments.co.uk were just gorgeous, so AW13. And I couldn’t believe everything was from Matalan!
Elizabeth’s outfit over on littlemisslizxo.wordpress.com was really well co-ordinated and I’m a big fan of the DP skirt.
Emma made me fall in love with Jenna Lyons – SUCH a great choice for outfit inspo. You can see her post on theawkwardmagazine.com.
The contrast panels on the Vero Moda trousers in Dana’s post were another massive favourite. I don’t think I’d have the legs for them, but I loved them!
Karen from missionstyle.uk.blogspot.co.uk deserves a massive shout out for not only featuring a great outfit, but wearing practically the same one for the finals of the European Women in Sales Awards! What a superstar! There was some great general advice in her post too.
The black and yellow outfit in Annabelle’s post literally had me reaching for my credit card. SO GOOD.
Jess styled an awesome outfit that included some of my fave high street pieces from this season (why haven’t I bought that Topshop skirt yet?!) and awesomely, she had actually worn the exact outfit to land herself a snazzy job!
Then Jodie picked out a really gorgeous burgundy themed outfit which featured a FiloFax which would actually make me WANT to be organised. And that’s saying something!
But there could only be one winner (boooo!) and my fave post had to be the one by Jaclyn at BumpkinBetty.com.
The post itself was really interesting and I think a lot of people forget that freelancers are effectively in ‘interview’ scenarios all the time when they pitch for work…and that the right outfit for that situation will vary wildly from client to client. Jaclyn put together three high stylin’ outfits for three industry scenarios – fashion, corporate and creative. The heel of the Stella McCartney shoe in the fashion outfit FLOORED me. So perfect. And then the corporate outfit was just wonderful with grey and baby pink – I loved that it wasn’t boring, which is what people seem to default to in more corporate scenarios. Again, the shoes were amaze. And the creative outfit was bloody brilliant too! I’ve loved that Zara coat for ages and I often wear Nike Air Max to important meetings – they can totally be smart enough, you just need to be able to assess when they’re appropriate.
So a huge thank you to everyone for taking part, I really did love reading all of them…and now have a ridic long shopping list!
And congrats to Jaclyn, your post was particularly fabulous.
More comps soon!
