I’ve wanted to do a skincare week on here for ruddy ages but now I’ve finally got round to it. Hurray!
Over the next five days I’ll be featuring 25 of my absolute favourite skincare products. A few of them are new-ish discoveries, but the vast majority have been a part of my routine for at least a year.
Apologies if you find yourself reading about products I’ve prattled on about in the past, but favourites are favourites! If they’re featured this week, they’ve beaten stiff competition.
Each post will be dedicated to my five favourite products across the following five categories: cleansers, acids, masks, moisturisers and treatments.
I might make this an annual thing, like my own mini awards ceremony. (Can you tell I’m in a post-Oscars comedown?!?)
Let’s kick things off with my five ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE cleansers…
1. Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel – £28
I first bought this on a 2 for 1 offer after seeing bloggers rave about it and that was MANY bottles ago. This is one of those products that I now buy people for birthdays and Christmases as it’s just so flippin’ lovely and it leaves you SO radiant. It’s a great cleanser for anyone finding their feet with a more thorough routine as nothing will convert you to the joys of washing properly with a flannel like this bottle of wonder.
Consistency wise it’s a deeply nourishing gel to oil formula which makes cleansing feel like a full on spa treatment.
I never travel without it and my mum loves it just as much as I do.
2. Clinique Take The Day Off – Balm (£22) and Oil (£22)
You know how I said I never travel without Renaissance Cleansing Gel? Well the same is true for Take The Day Off. They are my equal favourites and I love them both SO MUCH and exactly the same amount. Even if I am only going away for one night, I’ll pack both my Oskia and Clinique.
The Take The Day Off balm has been a staple of my routine for a couple of years now, but its sister oil which was released last summer has become a firm favourite too and that’s why I’m including them both here. Two for the price of one, if you like. (Although sadly not actually 2 for 1, as that would be an epic deal).
If you’re after a completely faff-free cleanser that will get rid of the most stubborn of mascaras and sun-blocks with a casual massage, you need Take The Day Off in your life.
They have no scent and are completely plain, so they don’t have that luxe spa factor that the other cleansers I’m featuring here have, but they’re just BRILLIANT cleansers.
I like the experience of massaging a balm into my skin and letting it melt into an oil, but I have started to find the oil more convenient sometimes for when I’m just in a hurry and I want to get my mascara off immediately. It’s a god send when wearing eyeliner.
Basically, they’re both ace and both as efficient so the choice comes down to personal preference really.

3. Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser – £24
This should be called Pure Joy cleanser as that’s how it feels to use. I adore the gel consistency of this orangey wonder product and it really does melt away make-up and impurities all whilst waking you up with a refreshing zing. It has rosehip and cherry oil and is unusual in that it transforms from gel to oil to milk as it melts into your skin.
It leaves you soft, supple and happy <3
4. Aurelia Miracle Cleanser – £34
I don’t seek out natural/organic products when shopping for beauty bits, but Aurelia really prove just how effective and scientific natural products can be. I wanted to eat this the first time I used it (I didn’t, don’t worry) as the blend of eucalyptus, chamomile, rosemary and bergamot smelled like it should be in some sort of marvellous expansive Victorian kitchen.
It’s a thick cream type consistency which wouldn’t be what I’d go for usually, but I just love it. It’s so decadent.
Oh and rest assured it’s completely free from synthetic fragrances, parabens, mineral oils, silicones and sulphates. (As well as being certified cruelty free, 100% bio-organic and free from lots of other nasties too!).
5. Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm – £38
This is a lot of people’s FAVOURITE CLEANSER EVER but I prefer to use it as a treat rather than every day. It’s a thick luxurious balm that will do the tough job of removing make-up but somehow manages to feel calming and soothing all at the same time.
You can leave a layer of it on as a mask for ten minutes or even use it as a rescue balm. You’ll definitely see the difference when you use it. It’s a proper “come and stroke my cheeks, FEEL HOW SOFT I AM!” type product.
Oh and it smells heavenly.
With all of these cleansers I apply them to dry skin and massage in for a good couple of minutes, before washing off with a flannel and warm water. Some of them come with special muslins but I’m not religious about using them, I’ll just grab whatever’s at the top of my flannel box be that a bamboo cloth, muslin or Primark flannel. I’m not fussy 🙂
Stay tuned for my top five acids, coming tomorrow 🙂
