Last week I had an amazing facial at Beauty & Melody (reviewed here) which focused on extractions and deep cleansing. During the facial, the usual chat about skincare regime came up…and I had to go through the embarrassment of confessing “I don’t really have a skincare routine” in a sheepish voice.
I was told off, quite rightly.
My problem is a nice problem to have I suppose, but I have good skin. It must be a genetic thing (it’s definitely not anything sensible I’m doing) but I’m generally very happy with my skin – it’s probably the part of my body I worry about the least. The downside of good skin is that it’s really easy to not bother looking after it and, as I was informed quite sternly last week, that’s simply not an option now that I’m 26. (26 and a half, no less).
As my skin seems to naturally look after itself, I’m resistant to using lots of products on it. I seem to have this (probably irrational) fear that by introducing my skin to all sorts of cleansers, toners, moisturises and scrubs I’ll actually give myself spots. Spots I wouldn’t have otherwise had. It’s not exactly enticing.
That being said, I know I’m going to get wrinkly and I know my own collagen production is already on the decline now that I’m heading into late twenties. AND I currently have a perfectly clean face after my epic deep cleanse facial, so I promised my therapist Sorina that I would take this blank canvas and look after it.
BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO!
So I would love some advice on what I really need to keep my good skin good for forever more.
What are the essentials? I’ve heard ‘UVA protection’ bandied around a lot and I’m religious with SPF 50 on my face in the summer, but I neglect it the rest of the year. Are there any brands you swear by? I don’t have sensitive skin, but I didn’t get on well at all with Eve Lom products when I tried them for a while. I’m off to the USA next week, so products that are easier to find stateside are definitely an option. *Sephora sex face*.
It seems easy to find advice for blemished teens or older women, but what about the the 20 somethings with good skin who just want to keep it that way?
Tweet me or comment me, I have vowed to give myself 5 minutes in the morning and evenings to look after my face…so I wanna use it wisely 😀
