I just bought my fourth bottle of Truth Serum and this is why…

August 12, 2015 By Poppy Dinsey 13 Comments

There aren’t many products that I repeat buy with extreme urgency, but Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum is one of them. I am on my third deluxe sized bottle of the dreamy orangey wonder potion…

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Review on PoppyD.com

I’ve mentioned it previously in skincare routine blog posts (I need to do an up to date routines post, as some of the products I used to use are definitely not on my go-to list any more) but as I purchased my latest bottle on Monday I suddenly realised I had never actually blogged about it on its own before. Which is rather selfish of me.

If you’re not familiar, Ole Henriksen is an American brand (I’ve met Ole himself, he is the most brilliant walking talking advert for his products, his skin is AMAZING) but it’s pretty widely available here in the UK too, thankfully.

Truth Serum is their global number one best-seller but I am a big fan of Ole’s Pure Truth Melting Cleanser, Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil and the frikkin awesome Lemon Strip Flash Peel too. I’ll be taking his SPF30 CC Creme on holiday this weekend and an Ole Henriksen facial is one of my favourite ways to spend an hour…

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Review on PoppyD.com

…as proved at Harvey Nichols this week. *Guilty face*.

But what is Truth Serum?

Here’s how they describe it on their website…

“Like a daily vitamin for your face, this high powered vitamin C complex helps smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevents further damage. Loaded with antioxidants to fight off environmental aggressors and moisture-binding ingredients to keep your skin nourished and protected, this aromatic serum is absorbed instantly and penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin to provide long term results. Sensitive skin prone to irritation will benefit immensely from the calming properties of this oil-free serum.”

Here’s how I describe it whilst using it…

“Oooooh orangey! Is there some grapefruit in there too? Oh thank goodness I suddenly actually feel awake now. My skin is loaded with vitamins! And magazines say it should be loaded with vitamins so that’s good. Oh and doesn’t it feel dreamy? Like encasing your skin in silk and turning back time. If I had an awards programme I would definitely give this product an award.  I wonder if I would eventually turn into a baby if I used it every day for five years? I’m nearly half way there so let’s see. I can be a real life Benjamin Button! An Ole Henriksen Button! Mmmmmm oranges”

IT’S REALLY, REALLY GOOD.

I have used plenty of other serums in my time, but none have knocked Truth Serum off its perch as my number one fave. I enjoy other serums and chuck them into my routine here and there of course to shake things up, but Truth Serum is my everyday go-to. I know it does everything it claims to and if I am ever having a bit of a flair up or reaction to a new skincare product, I go straight back to basics and just use my most trusted/plain cleanser and Truth Serum for a while. It’s a beaut. And the packaging and product is orange, which is my favourite colour 🙂

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Review on PoppyD.comYes, I’ve even bought a small bottle just for travel. Eyyyyy!

I *always* try to buy US brands when I’m stateside as it’s often dramatically cheaper to do so, but I purchased my last two bottles of Truth Serum here in London and as it’s one of my most used products day and night it’s a relief to know I don’t have to get on a plane or risk import duties to buy it.

The price difference is noticeable though, the 50ml size is $72 in America – roughly £45 – whereas it’s £65 for the same size here. That being said, a plane ticket to America is more than £20 (sadly) and I haven’t begrudged the £65 I’ve paid for my last two bottles….it’s that good. I did argue a little with ST about why he’s not working more in the US at the moment: “I thought you wanted me to work abroad less?”      “I do babe, of course I do, but ya know….Sephora”.

If £65 for the 50ml bottle feels like a lot to splash out on a product you haven’t tried before, it does come in smaller sizes. You can buy 15ml for £18 or 30ml for £47 (side note: not sure if that’s a mistake by FeelUnique, as surely you’d buy two 15ml bottles for £36 rather than a 30ml bottle for £47?!).

And yes, American readers can gladly get the deluxe size for $72 or the mid size for $48. Lucky swines.

I should add in case you don’t read the blog often that I am 28 and have pretty normal skin, it’s not oily or particularly dry. I can’t comment with certainty how it would work on older skins (I’m sure it would be ace on younger skins) or on acne-prone skin etc.

Long story short though, it’s great. I love it.

x

Yes! I bloody love Truth Serum. SO SO good. A friend of mine used to be obsessed with The Body Shop’s Vitamin C serum, and this is like a pumped up version. I tend to buy half-size bottles on Amazon which works out a bit cheaper as the larger bottles can be ridiculous. Such a good serum though, good for my sensitive skin, and keeps it smooth and glowy.

Thank you for these beauty posts. I found Caroline Hirons, via your earlier posts on your day/night routine and I’ve gone from warm flannel + Argan oil, twice daily to Liquid Gold/Retinol A (every other night), SPF 30, Tata Harper + Aurelia serums, daily. (I never used to bother with SPF’s…_ I’m sure I’m missing out a few steps – I knew Vit C was important in all this and so, having read this post, I just bought the 50ml Truth Serum. (Being careful to link directly from your post, because, thank you!).

Two months later, my skin looks AMAZING. I can’t get over the difference. I thought I had pretty good skin – I’m 40, and look early 30’s, but this is something else. I now feel a moral obligation to tell every woman in my life about your skin care posts (because you go to so much detail) and CAROLINE HIRONS. (I love that woman…*sigh*)

To be able to buy with confidence (and these products are not cheap), makes such a difference. I really appreciate it. Thank you.

This is so amazing, thank you! And so glad you are liking the results!!! I haven’t tried Tata Harper as it’s so £££ but I want to so much. Height of luxury! x

I’ve nearly bought this multiple times after Caroline Hirons recommended it in her ‘In the Bathroom with Sali Hughes’ but your review just confirmed I have to have it! And joy of joys, just went on Feel Unique and it currently has 15% off! So FYI fellow fans! Time to stock up! X

Yep – I love it too. Bought my first bottle a few weeks ago in Sephora, but I know that I’m going to tear through it and end up replacing it here at grim UK prices. But still, really good value for a serum, no?
