For someone who spent years covering the hair trends backstage at London Fashion Week, I’ve always been massively cack-handed at doing my own hair. You’d think it would rub off, wouldn’t you? But it seems that no matter how many times I’ve watched the pros do their thing with brushes and tongs, I’ve always resorted back to my classic staple: the bun. Not even a tidy bun, either! Often just wet hair scraped back into a bun straight from the shower and left to dry into some sort of messy bun “look”. Delightful.
So when ghd asked me if I’d like to work with them on their #GlitzTheSeason campaign, I wasn’t sure if I should really say yes. I knew that selfishly, I wanted to say yes (have ya seen how ruddy beautiful their new copper luxe collection is?!) but I wasn’t sure what I would *actually* do to my hair once my oh so pretty platinum styler arrived.
I remember buying my first set of ghd straighteners during sixth form, it was like a rite of passage. I waited tables for what felt like endless weekends to be able to buy them and then when I finally got my hands on them, it was like all my teenage hair woes were fixed in an instant. I was obsessed with them and used them for years until they became so battered that I had to replace them; I then bought the exact same model I’d had before. I still have them in my bedroom now for those days where I do actually bother to make an effort with my hair…and they still do the job nicely.
But when this copper luxe set arrived I was blown away. The styler seemed so lightweight compared to what I was used to and the curve to the edges makes it easier than ever before to create waves. Plus this styler has all sorts of features my old straighteners didn’t have: automatic shut down for if you forget to turn it off, a longer swivel cord so you don’t have to be shackled to the wall, a heat resistant plate guard so you can easily travel with it. Oh and perhaps the best feature? Universal voltage so you can ACTUALLY USE YOUR STYLER ON HOLIDAY. Praise be!
I have stupidly long hair (I really do need to get a lot chopped off, I know this) so I always approach styling with a bit of caution. A lot of the easier styles don’t always work when your hair is very long and as I don’t want to take forever doing my hair – and I definitely don’t want to expose my hair to more heat than necessary – I was a bit wary that it would take me a while to get any sort of “style” going today.
My “before” scrappiness
I really needn’t have worried though, this styler FLEW through my hair. It heated up super quickly (and played a tune when it was ready, which I enjoyed more than I should have) and once I’d applied the Heat Protect Spray I was able to get to work with zero tugging and no having to go over the same sections. I got my hair looking slick and straight so quickly that I couldn’t actually believe it…
But as I was after a proper Christmassy look (I’m off to a xmas party this eve!), I wanted to glitz it up a little. I chose a bejewelled hair clip for the job and then took a small section of hair from below the clip to pin back and add some movement…
Finally I doused myself in Final Shine Spray and voila! I was ready 🙂
Now I know this isn’t exactly a complicated hair look, but I was quite impressed by how quickly I was able to throw something together that looked vaguely presentable. I *do* want to cut my hair much shorter at some point so I can experiment more with choppy waves and the like, but I was really pleased with the speed of the platinum styler and how I really didn’t need to have my hair in contact with the heated plates for very long.
I also really love that as a gift set, the styler comes with these cute limited edition Nails Inc polishes…
I can imagine that this set will be atop of many Christmas lists this year and from my experience with it, I can see why. Yes it’s gorgeous to look at and in everyone’s fave colour, but it works a treat too.
AWESOMELY, you can win one of these gift sets (worth £175!) by just following @ghdhair on Instagram and uploading a photo of your own embellished hair look with the hashtag #GlitzTheSeason. There’ll be one winner a week until the 7th of January and you can find more details and all the T&Cs here.
If you do enter, good luck! It would be an awesome set to win in time for Christmas 😀
