What better excuse to go to Newcastle than to celebrate all things fashion?!
Well what a cray cray busy few weeks it has been! NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week has just come to a close, but I was honoured to be a part of the opening Newcastle Fashion Weekend.
I was really excited to be invited to be a part of the opening events, especially so as it was a great excuse to make the pilgrimage up North to meet all the emerging designers.
The fashion weekend itself featured a heady mix of shopping, celebrities, style spotting and industry talks.
I was honoured enough to give a couple of talks myself, one on how I built WIWT and the lessons I learnt in the process and the other on this season’s hottest trends and, importantly, whether or not to bother with them!
Aside from me wittering on there were really insightful talks on careers in fashion from some of the top girls at ASOS, Motel and the local universities. Even Company mag editor Victoria White was on hand with advice on how to get into fashion journalism. My fave talk had to be Caryn Franklin’s talk on All Walks Beyond The Catwalk – def look into the amazing work they’re doing to change the fashion industry’s ideals and to promote a more diverse range of models across catwalks and ad campaigns…after all, there’s no one ideal when it comes to female beauty!
